MIMA MOUNDS AND THEIR BIGGER VARIANTS ENLARGE BOTH LATERALLY AND VERTICALLY- HOW?
A CLASSIC MOUND, which has a basin surrounding its rising Navajo formation outcrop is that at the TOQUERVILLE hiway 17, near I-15 Anderson junction. Above photo is taken of blocks of quartz monzonite- an intrusive rock found in the Pine Valley Mountains. Geologists continually argue as to the origin of these detached blocks. Are they fallen from an intrusive overhang, do they derive from gravity sliding, or do they indicate separate intrusions? This photo shows that they simply have sheared and rotated away from the parent mass, with the rotation of the 1 m.y. ellipse. Now, the question is: will they go into DENIAL, or will they continue to ARGUE?
The main question for me is: Will the million year rotation express itself as a 200 year major EARTHQUAKE? This is the anniversary of the largest main 48 states quake of all time- December 1811, the New Madrid super quake, that the geologists don’t understand. I have a significant shake predicted for the USA, and Laverkin, UT is the “USUAL SUSPECT”. It has already sunken in my 7 years of observation, and one house has been condemned near the Laverkin Creek bluff. THIS JURASSIC NAVAJO SANDSTONE WAS FORMED BY THE WIND, AND HAS CROSS-BEDDING WHICH DOES NOT INDICATE ANYTHING FOR LAYERING ANALYSIS- EXCEPT THAT THE DIRECTION OF THE ANCIENT WIND CAN BE DERIVED FROM THE TRACE OF THE MOVED SAND (ESCAPING THE PALEO WIND AND BEING PRESERVED ON THE DOWNWIND SIDE- THE WINDS WERE FROM THE NORTH). THE RED LAYER-LIKE FEATURE IS NOT TRUE BEDDING, BUT RESULTS FROM THE SANDSTONE BEING MORE LEVEL- PREVIOUSLY- AND WHICH RECEIVED PERCOLATING WATER MOVING LATERALLY. THIS PROCESS INTRODUCED DISSOLVED IRON AND MANGANESE, AND THE RED COLORING DOES NOT EXIST BELOW OR ABOVE. AT THE TIME OF DISCOLORATION, THE RED PORTION WAS NEAR HORIZONTAL AND BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. THIS IS INDICATED BY THE LACK OF STAIN BELOW AND ABOVE IN THE NORMAL SAND-COLORED DUNE SANDSTONE. LATER THE DOME MOVED UPWARDLY (OR EROSION UNCOVERED IT) AND THE IRON SS. WAS SHOVED UPWARDLY TO THE WEST. SIMULTANEOUSLY, PORTIONS WERE SEGMENTED AND ROTATED IN SMALLER "CHUNKS": TOQUERVILLE MOUND ABOVE HAS SEVERAL ARCUATE FEATURES WITHIN IT. IT HAS A CENTER-LINE VERTICAL FAULT (EXACTLY N-S), AND ARCUATE LATERAL FAULTING ON EITHER SIDE OF THE CENTER-LINE. THERE ARE 2 SMALLER DOMES ON THE NE AND SE SIDES, BUT NO OTHERS OF SIGNIFICANCE. IT IS MORE COMPLICATED THAN THE SMALLER DOMES FOUND NEAR THE AZ BORDER (ALSO HIGHER, WIDER, AND LARGER OVERALL).
Ol’ Geologist Ben would have an immediate flippant reason- for this feature- dug up from the bowels of the GEOLOGY CULTURE:
“the basalt formed around the protruding sandstone, and has merely eroded away”
This is incorrect! Since there is not any basalt remaining around the base of the mound in the sink surrounding the feature. I HAVE FOUND THAT MIMA MOUNDS EXPAND LATERALLY, WITH TIME; CONCURRENTLY, THE MOUNDS INCREASE IN HEIGHT. THIS IS DEMONSTRATED IN PUGET SOUND, WHERE MOUNDS OCCUR BOTH ABOVE AND BELOW SEA LEVEL- FORMING DIFFRACTION PATTERNS SUB-SEA, AND ELLIPTICALLY-ARRANGED PATTERNS NEAR MY SUMMER HOME. THE PROCESS REDUCES LUNAR TIDES, WITH NET WESTWARD MOVEMENT, FROM 20.48 TO 10.24MM/YEAR (SOLAR TIDES, UNINFLUENCED BY THE MOON). THE FINDING : CONVEX ARCS POINTING EASTWARD OFFSET LUNAR TIDAL-WEST MOVEMENT.
Should Ben be correct, there would be fragments remaining, from incomplete erosion. More likely, the expansion of the whole feature laterally has merely shoved the basalt away from the mound, This could be tested by looking at the basalt scarp, where the expected reaction would be a “lipping up” of the black rock. I will make this inspection, but for now here is the view from the roadway:

I have found from many field trips, that mounds enlarge outwardly, and this can be seen as expansion rings- which increase the diameter of the mound with time. How is this done? The following series of photos shows that normal faulting and rotation of blocks of rock create the phenomenon. This is taken from the AZ border, where there is a series of younger mounds, with arroyos at their bases (so that the cross-section portrays the action which transpired):
NORMAL FAULTS HAVE SEDIMENTARY LAYERS DOWNTHROWN, ROTATING CCW (UPWARDLY) on the WEST SIDE. THIS CREATES EXPANSION (DIAMETER INCREASE OF MOUND), WITH UPLIFT SINULTANEOUSLY, AS LATER SEDIMENTS FILL IN THE FRACTURES AND VACATED SPACES:
NOTICE THAT THE GYPSIFEROUS SCALE FOLLOWS CIRCULAR SHEAR LINES IN SCARPS (CURVILINEARS), ROTATING CCW WHEN SINKING (OPPOSITELY TO THAT OCCURRING HORIZONTALLY). VERTICAL ROTATIONS MUST BE REVERSE TO THOSE ABOVE- HORIZONTALLY, OTHERWISE THERE WOULD BE GRINDING (WITH HEAT):
BELOW IS ANOTHER ANALYSIS OF THE TOQUERVILLE DOME, SHOWING HOW IT FITS INTO THE REGIONAL ELLIPTICAL ARRANGEMENT OF "DOMES". THIS ANALYSIS INDICATES THAT THE TOQUERVILLE DOME IS A "WORK IN PROGRESS" APPROACHING 1 M.Y. DEVELOPMENT IN ABOUT 200 K.Y, HELPING TO SOLVE THE ANSWER TO MY PREVIOUS FINDING THAT LAVERKIN (TO THE SOUTH, 4KM) IS SINKING, CREATING A ZONE ALONG THE LAVERKIN CREEK, WHERE CLIFF EDGE DWELLERS MUST INSTALL LARGE HOUSE JACKS- TO PREVENT THEIR DWELLINGS FALLING INTO THE ABYSS BELOW (ONE HOUSE HAS BEEN CONDEMNED, AND ANOTHER IS STILL IN THE DENIAL STAGE):
EARTH TIDES ARE 20.48MM/YR FOR CONVEX ARCS POINTING WESTWARD, AND 10.24 EASTWARD. WHAT, THEN, IS THAT IN BETWEEN? THE EXAMPLE OF THE GULF OF MEXICO (REACTING TO THE CHICXULUB EVENT) SHOWS THAT THERE IS A GRADUAL CHANGE UNTIL A DRASTIC EVENT, AS SHOWN IN THE EASTERN GULF. THIS MAKES THE MEASUREMENT OF INTERVAL TIMES DIFFICULT, WHENEVER THERE IS MORE THAN A HALF CIRCLE PORTRAYED. HENCEFORTH, WE MUST USE ONLY THOSE ARCS POINTING WESTWARD OR EASTWARD- BUT NOT IN BETWEEN FOR AGE CALCULATION!
THE SHELF OF THE EDWARDS PLATEAU IS A MYSTERY TO GEOLOGISTS; THERE IS A DRASTIC BREAK FROM THE CRETACEOUS TO THE TERTIARY. MUCH OIL IS ASSOCIATED WITH THESE HIATUSES, SINCE THE OIL FLOWS VERTICALLY FROM BELOW. THIS FINDING HELPS TO CLARIFY THE ASSOCIATION OF FRACTURES AND UNCONFORMITIES WITH PETROLEUM:
